OUR MISSION:

Recruit, Prepare, Place and Retain Black male teachers in elementary schools.

OUR VISION:

Is that all students have the opportunity to attend schools staffed with racially and culturally diverse teacher and leaders, reflecting the students race, ethnicity and cultures, thereby creating an environment that affirms students for whom they are. Black Men Teach creates the environment and conditions where Black male teachers can thrive, because our children’s schooling experience will never be complete without them.

We build pathways for Black men to embrace careers in education, shaping the next generation of teachers and creating a lasting impact on students and society.

Together, we are creating stronger communities and more equitable futures — ultimately realizing the true potential of representation in the classroom.

Our goal is to build and engage a fellowship of Black male educators. Black Men Teach provides a framework that strategically unites the collaborative efforts of several key partners who are dedicated to advancing educational equity and reform to build a stronger, more diverse teaching workforce.

Recruit

Engage with community leaders to inspire and motivate Black men to pursue teaching as an impactful career path.

Mentor prospective teachers, collaborating with teacher preparation and scholarship partners to guide them toward achieving a degree and license.

place

Welcome recent graduates into our K-5 partner schools, providing them with a culture designed to support their success.

4.

retain

Offer growth opportunities and mentorship. Provide student loan repayment assistance, incentivizing teacher retention and alleviating financial barriers to pursuing a career in education.

The result:

Thriving Teachers and Successful Students

By employing our Theory of Action, we aim for each of our current partner schools to achieve a teaching staff composed of 20% Black men within six years. Through this approach, our goal is to produce 100 Black male teachers within 10 years.
